With the high cost of heating and air-conditioning here is a list of things that may help you improve the efficiency of your home.

1. Windows: Repair locks and tracks to slow down air and filtration.

2. Install storm windows:  one pane of glass will improve its efficiency by 100%

3. Weather strip doors and install storm doors: this will help cut down drafts and loss of heat.

4. Install vapor barrier in crawl space. This will slow down moisture coming up through the floor.

5. Seal all ductwork with mastic; this will help seal air leaks and improve the efficiency of your HVAC.

6. Have HVAC unit serviced and cleaned.

7. Install programmable thermostat; by using this adjustable thermostat there would be about a 10% savings.

8. Install more insulation to bring up to present day standards. With present energy costs, the
    payback time is shorter now.

9. Find and seal all air leaks such as around folding staircases, access panels, light fixtures and outlets.

10. Keep fireplace damper closed.

11. If you have good sunlight exposure, try using an HVAC fan during daylight hours to distribute heat to other
      parts of the house.
